Fairy Tales are ripe for commercials. We recognize their narrative immediately and our attention is captured. Then, the ad can twist the story in a way that engages us and keeps us watching, thereby assuring residual memory of whatever they are advertising–even if we see the ad as silly and are not all that interested in the product, we are hooked. This has caught the eyes of commentators from textile designers to academics, such as this article by Preston Wittwer, an English Professor at Brigham Young University.
And one more…
What fairy tales could you imagine using to sell… what products? Go!
Some fairy tales I could imagine using to sell a certain product would be Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, or The Three Little Pigs. For Cinderella I would sell fashion or beauty products. For Little red I would sell security cams, or smart locks. Finally for The Three little pigs I would sell durable products that would last like high quality furniture, or home building materials.
– Cinderella to sell beauty products or shoes
– Sleeping Beauty to sell mattresses, pillows, or blankets
– Snow White to sell mirrors or promote an apple orchard
– Donkeyskin to sell fur coats
– Little Mermaid to sell soap or shower products
– Rapunzel to sell hair products
– Rumpelstiltskin to sell gold jewelry
– Beauty and the Beast to sell books
The fairytales I could imagine could be used to sell products are:
Cinderella for shoes, pumpkins, and dresses
Beauty and the Beast for roses or makeup/beauty products
Sleeping Beauty to sell bed frames, mattresses, other sleeping products
Little Red Riding Hood for lights that go on either side of a walkway
Rapunzel to sell ladders or elevators
Jack and the Beanstalk to sell beans or seeds
The Juniper Tree to sell safety locks and sticks that prop up and lock for chests/ottomans and other heavy things that need to be held open
I would use Cinderella to sell shoes, Snow White to sell apples, Little Red Riding Hood to sell baskets, and Goldilocks to sell porridge.
